Kristy Wilson and Cindy Hower named to KAIA executive board of directors
Kristy Wilson, CIC, CISR, has been named to the Kansas Association of Insurance Agents (KAIA) Executive Board of Directors. Wilson who is a producer with Kellerman Insurance in Holton, was elected October 6 during KAIA’s annual Management Conference in Manhattan. She also serves as executive liaison to the association’s government affairs committee. Wilson has also chaired the events committee, young Agents committee and the ASCK board with KAIA.
Joining Wilson on the Executive Committee is fellow Kellerman Insurance owner, Cindy Hower. Hower was elected as the State National Director on October 6. In addition to serving on the KAIA board, Hower is the Chairwoman of InVEST, a national program designed to bring insurance education into the classroom. Hower has been very active with KAIA serving as Board President, education committee, government affairs committee and Trusted Choice committee chairwoman.

Its members are small businesses that employ more than 3,000 licensed agents in communities throughout the state. What makes your agency unique?
Our agency is unique in our area in that we offer insurance through multiple companies allowing us to better serve our customer’s needs. Having over 85 years of insurance experience amongst our agents is unique to our area as well. Our agents are very active in our community throughout various organizations and groups, enabling us to give back to our community. Our building is also unique to the downtown Holton square, and started out as a bank. It has housed various tenants ranging from abstractors, law offices, a barber shop, beauty salon and liquor store. We are happy to serve our customers from a building on the state and national historic register.
What are your agency’s future plans?
Kellerman Insurance will continue to look for opportunities to grow by acquisitions, and by strengthening agency relations by keeping up with technology that is constantly changing.
Any technology that has made your organization more efficient?
The use of cell phones and tablets, along with our online management system has helped make our agency more efficient. We use DocuSign in order to obtain electronic signatures from our customers on various documents. One of our agents has even used technology to service the needs and communicate effectively with the Hispanic population.
Anything else you would like others to know about your agency?
Our agency joined Bison Insurance Group in 2015. This group represents 7 independent insurance agencies and branches across Kansas. Bison Insurance Group is affiliated on the state level with the Kansas Association of Insurance Agents (KAIA), nationally with the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA), and with the Trusted Choice brand. This has given our agency access and leveraging volume to multiple markets that allow us to put together insurance programs tailored to meet our customer’s needs. Kellerman Insurance is about 50% personal lines business and 50% commercial lines business. Our agency shares a building with Kellerman Real Estate, also owned and operated by Roger & Cindy Hower. The real estate and insurance businesses complement each other well.
Industry Celebrates InVest Awareness Month
March designated to promote program’s insurance industry career recruitment and scholarship fundraising efforts.
ALEXANDRIA, Virginia, March 4, 2016 – InVEST, the insurance industry’s premier classroom to career education program, is promoting March as InVEST Awareness Month with a series of events and social media campaigns.
“InVEST is a group effort with great mentors and volunteers,” says Cindy Hower, InVEST board chair and president of Kellerman Insurance, an independent agency in Holton, Kansas. “Through InVEST Awareness Month, the InVEST board of directors is working to build exposure of this wonderful program to increase donations to the scholarship fund and to encourage more volunteers to step forward to support local classrooms.”
The InVEST program is a key driver to attract new talent to the insurance industry and is currently in more than 600 college and high schools across the country. The InVEST Awareness Month campaign aims to build awareness of the program, raise money for the scholarship fund, and recruit volunteers.

Cindy Hower earns Agent of the Merit Award
Cindy Hower, owner of Kellerman Insurance in Holton, was named Agent of the Merit Oct. 8 during a statewide awards banquet at the Wichita Marriott. The award, presented by the KIA/1752 Club, recognizes one agent among more than 2,500 independent agents statewide who has demonstrated exceptional service to the industry, her clients and her community.
Hower grew up in the insurance business, eventually becoming an agent and owner of the family agency. She earned her Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation and also holds a real estate license. Hower is a past president of the Kansas Association of Insurance Agents and was elected earlier this month to serve as National Director for Kansas on the Insurance Agents and Brokers of America (IIABA) national board. Hower additionally serves as Chair of the InVEST board, an IIABA initiative that is focused on teaching high school and college students about career opportunities in the insurance industry and about how to make knowledgeable insurance decisions as consumers.

Howers Honored at Chamber Luncheon
Roger and Cindy Hower of Kellerman Real Estate and Kellerman Insurance received a Kansas Department of Commerce Award of Merit during a Holton/Jackson County Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Tuesday.
The awared according to Lyle Peterson of KDOC's Manhattan office, recognizes local businesses "for the contributions they make to the local and state economy." Peterson, who presented the award, also recognized the Howers for their support of local organizations and causes in HOlton and Jackson County.
Also during Tuesday's luncheon, Jackson County Commissioner Rob Ladner praised the work of volunteers who helped wit hthe children's day camp presented recently by the Jackson County Sheriff's OFfice and spoke on his work as a county commissioner, particularly in the commission's recent efforts to work with FEMA to obtain funds to replace road rock washed out during this past spring's rains.
About 25 members of Holton's business community attended the luncheon, which was catered by China Restaurant of Holton.

The Society of Certified Insurance Counselors (CIC) recently honored Cindy Hower, of Kellerman Insurance, for dedication and leadership in the insurance industry.
Mrs. Hower was awarded a certificate of achievement, recognizing five consecutive years of active affiliation with the Society of CIC. The CIC designation carries meaningful prestige in the insurance profession as it signifies commitment to advanced knowledge and customer service.
The Society’s President, Dr. William T. Hold, CIC, SPCU, CLU, cited, “This accomplishment denotes outstanding achievement within the insurance profession. The high standards maintained by Cindy will reflect positively on clients, associates and the insurance profession as a whole.”
